Students will be required to create a 1-2 page infographic on one assigned health condition or health phenomenon. If you have never made an infographic before, Pikochart or Canva are good places to start.
Presentations are not intended to be entirely comprehensive, but they are expected to review epidemiologic concepts explored during lecture such as disease frequency, descriptive epidemiology, measures of association, and screening. If you want to include information on the clinical background or symptoms of your topic (if applicable), you can, but it should not be the focus of your presentation (since a medical perspective is not an epi perspective).
The follow should be included in your infographic:
Define the condition (Are there different criteria? Different definitions?)
Prevalence (What is the distribution in the population? Think about person, place, and time factors and descriptive epidemiology)
Exposures & Risk factors (quantified with research and cited) (This is analytic epidemiology)
Example: Not “gender is a risk factor” , Instead: Women are at a (X) greater risk than men (must include comparison group)
Screening (How is disease identified?)
Policy & Prevention Strategies (What is being done to lessen the burden of disease?)
