Choose a topic or discussion point (anything as long as it is generally relevant to Intercultural Communications) that stood out to you throughout the course. Write a reflection paper. This paper is primarily based on your thoughts and opinions, but you must do some further research into the subject–see what other conversations about the topic are out there.
Your writing does not have to be formal (you can use I statements and speak from your experience), but your paper must still be organized and contain minimal errors. You should probably take at least 3-4 weeks on this paper to do some basic research, create an outline, write, and edit your work.
Make sure you include:
a cover page (no format requirements provided it is neat and contains all the detail…title, your name, my name, class, date)
intro, content, conclusion
references both in the content and a page at the end (APA style)
Regarding references: if you talk about what someone said in class, but can’t remember who, you don’t have to cite that. For example, “at one point in time, two students in the class had a disagreement over the subject, which made it clear that opinion is divided on this subject.” But, if you can remember, try to include a citation. For example, “at one point, professor Anne told the students they were all nuts and that she didn’t care about their opinions. This is a clear example of how to destroy the student-professor relationship (Ginn, October 2021).”
A few things to think about as you organize your thoughts:
How did the topic affect you?
How does this topic affect others?
Has the discussion changed your mind about something? If so, explain how.
Has the discussion left you with any questions?
Does the topic relate to anything from your past experiences?
How do you see this topic affecting your future work and/or behaviour (either as a student or a professional in the field you’d like to enter)?
As with everything in this course, we are exploring:
What is the issue?
What does it mean (how does it impact people)?
What are we going to do about it?

Just a note: you can definitely use “I” statements in a reflection paper, but often people will fall into the trap of writing “I believe” so many times it gets annoying. I know this is from your perspective, so you don’t have to write “I believe” every time. For example, instead of writing “I believe that students truly want to learn and are seeking connection with their professors. I think that professors should create opportunities for students to build a strong working relationship with their students,” you could skip both “I” statements or perhaps just include the first.
