The research paper will be the culmination of everything you have worked on in the last three writing projects. Building from the conclusion of your literary review, you will write a thesis-based argumentative paper that draws upon the evidence you have found during your research. Your paper will begin with an introduction that presents an overview for your audience of what discourse are responding to in your argument and how you will use evidence to back up this response. Your body paragraphs will analyze and synthesize your research as support for your thesis. Since this is a longer paper, balancing summary and background information with proper analysis and acknowledgment of the scholarly conversation is going to be crucial. A key component of participating in academic discourse through this piece will be incorporating and rebutting a counterargument. You must also pay special care to the rhetorical considerations of the paper, such as your audience of academics and educated readers concerned with music and contemporary social issues.
An excellent research paper will:
