A Cultural Self-Reflection

Your task is to review and reflect on material that we have covered over this semester and consider concepts and issues that might be relevant to you, your personal experiences, and the potential professional direction that you want to undertake. With greater cultural awareness, we become more aware of the links between our cultural background and context and how these may be related to our own views and behaviors. While you may not have a clear professional
direction yet, you probably have some career ideas and areas that are of interest to you, which you may use as guides to respond to the prompts below.

cultural background: Asian American/ Filipino migrated to the US at age 11,
now an adult at age 35.

Things you will need to do:

I. Review class material and select 5 that you can use to respond to all three
prompts below. textbook chapters uploaded as pdf and word document are from class lectures.

II. Respond to the items below:
a. Identify and describe concepts and issues that you have found to be relevant in understanding yourself, your own behavior, and your own personal experinces.
Drawing on your real-life experiences, try to answer the following questions:
How has your cultural background or context shaped your sense of self
(independent/interdependent self)? Your perceptions of self and others (e.g.,
individualism/collectivism, attributions of self and others)?

b. Identify and explain concepts and issues that you consider to be relevant in the potential professional or career direction(s) you want to go or are considering.
Examples: If you want to become a school counselor, what concepts and issues covered in class do you think will be important in your line of work?
c. Identify concepts and issues that you have found to be particularly striking and that has brought greater awareness of some of the differences in human behavior across cultures.

The text of your paper in response to the prompts above will only be three full pages (double-spaced) at minimum, with the title page and
reference section making up two additional pages. Do not include an abstract. Your paper should conform to the standards of the APA Publication Manual (7th Edition).
