Paper
• 10 – 11 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman is preferred.
o Name and title of paper on first page
o number pages
o include footnotes to cite your sources.
• Includes an introduction to your research question and argument. Explains how you will defend your research question and why this questions is important to explore
• Includes a section on the historiography of your theme: what have other historians argued about your topic and how does your argument expand upon, refine, challenge, present a new approach, etc.?
• Includes an organized and logical approach to defending your argument including (but not limited to)
o background information – what does the reader need to know to understand the theme, language, historical context, place, etc.?
o case – study: a focus on a specific example to show how your argument connects with this evidence
o multiple perspectives: incorporating different voices, views, or ways of analyzing your research question.
o multiple points that defend your argument and why they are important
• specific evidence (quoted material) from your sources
• footnote citations for all paraphrased and quoted text
o use the Chicago Manual of Style – notes and bibliography format
o consult the Chicago Style database –
• bibliography of all sources consulted, and sources cited, divided into primary and secondary sources.
You can use my old paper and just add on to it to save time, YOU DO NEED MORE SOURCES though
