Write it like how you would explain it to a family member and writing in first person is fine, but don’t try to do that for the whole thing. Thank you for understanding! The project is intended to allow you to pursue, in depth, an issue concerning gender and/or sexuality in sport and physical activity. Modest reviews of literature
Papers are expected to be from 5-7 pages in length.
Project Requirements: Required Format for the Project: (Use each as a section heading in your paper)
Introduction (25 pts.) approx 1 page Provide a brief summary of the issue you are studying in your project, whether. Your project is a study, a review of literature or a policy review. Provide a brief introduction to some of the major issues in sport that relate to that area that we read about and discussed and in any of the articles you selected and are going to summarize. Then state the purpose of your project (should be found in your project proposal) and how it relates to themes or issues we discussed in class. If you did a study, briefly describe what your study was about (who the subjects were/ what the data were; what questions you asked, etc.). If you did a literature review or policy review, summarize the topic and its importance to understanding gender and sexuality in sport.
Finally, describe briefly what will follow in your paper. Summary (50 pts.) 1 1/2 -2 pages Provide a 1 1/2 -2 page summary of what we currently know about the topic you are studying based on our readings. Make sure to refer to articles you reference using appropriate APA style citations (i.e. by the author(s) name(s) and the year it was published (e.g. Ravizza, 1997). If it involves a study that was conducted or summarized, briefly what the study was about, who/what it studied, the methods it used, what it found, and the major conclusions the author(s) drew.
Method (25 pts.) 1/2 to 3/4 page If you conducted a study, state the specific kind of method you used. If you have constructed a questionnaire or survey, you should describe the rationale for the questions you asked. If you did a literature review, explain how you chose the articles or book you chose. If you are conducting a policy review, explain why you chose the organization you did. For studies, include how you analyzed the data (i.e. the statistics you used–descriiptive only—see below).
Results and Analysis (50 pts.) 1-2 pages If you did a study, provide a general summary of your results. If you collected numerical data, you should provide a table that summarizes the means, etc. Use only descriiptive statistics (i.e., calculate means and use those as a basis for comparison)—no analytical statistics are needed. Provide a narrative that refers to your statistics and describes, in general, what you found in each of the major areas of the study. If you conducted a review of literature, summarize what each of the pieces found and identify major themes they share in common or that distinguish one article from others. Discussion and Conclusions (50 pts) 2 pages Summarize and discuss your project in terms of your findings, themes identified in the articles you summarized, or in your policy review. To what degree and in what areas is your study consistent or inconsistent with what we have studied, read, and discussed in the class? Express a scholarly opinion on the usefulness of the study you conducted, or literature you reviewed, and any thoughts you have about new lines of research. What new directions might this research take?
