In reading “The Case for Cannibalism”, what the author argues is that “If everything is permissible between consenting adults, why not?” He throws this out there sort of a way to have an open mind while reading the rest of his argument. He goes on by giving us some facts and using professionals to help with his argument. The use of including a psychiatrist to show that they had come across a man by the name of Armin Meiwes who was the one who killed Bernd Brandes and then ate at least 44 pounds of his flesh. Throughout the text there’s a lot of evidence that has found in this case to mainly focus on the odd relationship that they state Meiwes and Brandes had. With all the evidence that are given, he shows how many may obviously argue otherwise and not agree with what is being said. He does many great examples of how many would disagree like for example that people are more than capable of making their own mistakes even though Brandes was mad at the time he wanted somebody to eat him. On of his big arguments is that even though us as humans have “emotional problems” we still should be able to make our own choices because if we weren’t than none of us would be self-determining in the eyes of the law, except those who are opposite and have no emotions to have problems with. In my opinion I strongly agree that everyone has the right to make their own choices in life and live their life the way they wanna live it. But I also do not understand how people eat other human’s flesh. At the end of the day some of us humans do have mental problems and sometimes don’t know how to think fully and that’s why sometimes they find ways to make it seem like we aren’t capable of making our own choices but I believe that no matter what we should always do things on our own even if it’s not the right choice we need to learn the hard way sometimes. As for this essay on cannibalism I thought the author had a great argument to introduce cannibalism and as well understand his point of view.
