Write a personal, non-fiction essay that negotiates either a stereotype in your life or an archetype (La Llorona or La Malinche) in your life; try to borrow from either Sandra Cisnero’s experimental prose style. Consider telling a particular story from your life, with characters and dialogue. (Minimum 3 pgs double-spaced) For this assignment, you will create a creative piece in response to the class’s recent readings. The idea is not simply to have fun–but also to more deeply understand the themes, effects, and ideas in the texts we analyze. All creative projects should be accompanied by a separate 250-350 word reflection on your process. In these reflections, explain what you learned in the process either about artistic representation, about the original texts or themes in question in our class, or about your own creative process. Also, explain some of the choices you made in your creative piece and how those choices relate to the readings to which you’re responding. Certainly check out their artist statements, which are possible models for your “reflection."
