Ethics Essay (75%)
Question Scenario:
A policy is under consideration in the legislative body in the nation of New Queendom where 1% of the population would be forced to live and work as slaves in a manufacturing facility to produce computer chips. Proponents of this policy argue that if enacted into law, it would result in lower prices for desktop consumers in New Queendom. They argue that it would also likely result in the happiness of 99% of the population who are not enslaved, because they would be able to purchase computer-based appliances (mobile phones, computers, tablets etc) at much lower prices and lead to inventions that would benefit mankind. This means that 99% of the population will benefit at the expense of the remaining 1%.
You are the CEO of a computer manufacturing company – your competitors are supporting this law and lobbying the government to introduce it. What would your ethical position be?
