• Chapter 2: The Counselor as a Person and as a Professional

During the counseling process, expectations of the client/counselor relationship are established and maintained to ensure ethical counseling practices. However, there are times in which these boundaries may become blurred or when clients and counselors have strong reactions toward each other, leading to transference and countertransference. Prior to responding to this week’s discussion post, please read Cartwright, Stark, and Mountain (2018) article from this week’s Required Readings.
In your initial response, provide an example (a scenario) of when transference and an example of when countertransference can occur in a counseling relationship (a total of 2 scenarios). List your ethical concerns regarding each scenario for your classmates as if you are seeking professional consultation.
