This assignment is intended to help students meet the following learning outcomes from the course
syllabus:

• Assess critically the categories of personhood ascribed to international migrants.
• Analyze contemporary trends in the governance of international migrations.

Additionally, this assignment is intended to help strengthen students’ analytical, critical and oral
communication skills.

Content

• Analyze: choose one main concept or idea from the assigned material. Describe this concept
or idea and analyze how it helps us understand the contemporary governance of
international migrations.
• Critique: express at least one point of agreement or disagreement with the material being
presented. Say why you agree or disagree.
• Connect: offer additional thinking, including, for instance, why this concept or idea is
significant, or how it relates to broader political issues and debates. You can also establish
connections with other cases, concepts, or ideas that we have studied in previous weeks.
• Ask: share at least one open-ended question for in-class discussion. You should type and
post the question on the discussion board where you post your presentation.
• Be creative: find a creative way to convey your analysis, critique, connections and question
for discussion. Some options are the following: a Power Point presentation, an infographic
or a poster. You may also provide an image, a song, a poem or some other audio-visual
resource.
