In order to truly understand technology and its implications, it is essential that it be placed in the proper context. Furthermore, the pace of technological change is so rapid that what was true yesterday may no longer be valid. As a result, we must be continuously aware of what has happened, and where a technology may be heading.
Task: Choose an issue related to the class that appeals to you (e.g., can computers be conscious) and research it so that you will be able to incorporate others’ ideas with your own. You must have a minimum of five sources, which can cover a variety of aspects of your topic (e.g., its history, different viewpoints, etc.). Then using examples from any or all of the literary texts discussed, develop an argumentative essay that incorporates your research material.
NOTE: SINCE LITERARY TEXTS ARE FICTIONAL AND DO NOT NECESSARILY PORTRAY REALITY ACCURATELY, LITERARY WORKS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE SOURCE MATERIAL.
Length: 1500 – 2000 words (6 – 8 pages) of your own words (i.e., quotations do not count towards your word count).
