Question 1: How has the continuing impact of colonisation contributed to the mistrust and attitudes in which Indigenous people interact with family violence support agencies? In your answer analyse aspects of contemporary Indigenous disadvantage arising from colonisation, which are relevant to these contemporary social realities. (15% – 750 words).
Question 2: Historically, what role did the police play in processes of colonisation? How does this history impact on contemporary relations with Indigenous people, and how can this knowledge inform your ongoing/future professional practice? (15 % – 750 words).
Question 3: How has the over-representation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system changed since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody? What are some of the interconnecting factors that contribute to the over-representation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system? How can this knowledge inform your ongoing/future professional practice? (15 % – 750 words).

This assessment requires you to produce written responses to specific questions that tracks your progression through the Learning Modules of this subject. This is an exercise in self-awareness, critical analysis and Indigenous cultural competence. Your responses to the questions ought to demonstrate informed engagement, evidenced by references to module readings covered in this subject and any additional research. Students are to include an end of text reference list including references cited for all three responses.

Reference requirements
Provide a reference list on a separate page at the end of your assessment. The reference list should use the APA7 referencing system (see this link for more info about APA style). All sources that you cite in your assessment task must be included in the reference list. You may cite and reference the readings linked to the modules. Use in-text citations to identify other people’s ideas and words, following APA7 style. Quotes must be in quotation marks and the in-text citation must include the page number.

This assessment task must be in professional and formal language.
Care must be taken to avoid spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.

Note: Paragraphs should have one main idea. They should be logically arranged to unpack ideas for the reader in a systematic way. The writer should not assume the reader has knowledge. Paragraphs under 3 sentences are not considered legitimate. Paragraphs should be less than a page.

Answering the weekly activity questions in the Modules will assist with developing responses to this assessment. Use the Discussion Board/Tutorials to workshop and plan your responses to the questions. We are particularly looking for your comprehension and insights on Modules 1, 2 and 3. Including earlier materials would demonstrate that you are using a historical context to evaluate contemporary social realities.
