3. Can Interpret a periodontal examination and charting.
4. Can demonstrate competence at planning supragingival and subgingival debridement and root surface debridement, using both powered and manual instrumentation, and stain removal prophylaxis.
5. Can determine of the appropriate anti-microbial therapy in the management of plaque related diseases.
6. Can justify requesting both extra and intra-oral radiographs, incorporating them into the views in clinical practice. Further, if views are suboptimal reflecting on how inadequacies can be rectified and prevented in future practice.
7. Can demonstrate understanding of the clinical presentation and management of the common diseases of the oral mucosa, of other oral soft tissues and of the salivary glands. Communicate effectively with the dentist about patients within their joint care.
Patient selection
This case study should demonstrate your ability to provide appropriate longitudinal periodontal care to a patient with periodontal disease. It should demonstrate a course of treatment and the reassessment of the patient. This will enable you to discuss healing, monitoring and future management with relevance to your patient. The case study should demonstrate your clinical abilities to the fullest.
