Prompt:
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus states that “… it’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird” (119). For the Final Essay of the semester, you are to answers two parts: first, define what a Mockingbird means in this context; and second, choose one character from To Kill a Mockingbird, another character from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
You are to state why they are Mockingbirds. You must use the context from the novels to support this. There have to be reasons in the book why you chose these two characters.
This should look familiar to you so far. This is the same prompt as a previous essay. However, instead of writing a paragraph about this prompt, you are now going to write an argumentative essay.
If I were you, I would review the paragraph you used earlier in the semester and use this as a foundation for the essay. However, if you have changed your viewpoint since that assignment and have chosen a different Mockingbird, then start fresh for the essay.
Requirements:
This essay should be at least four to six pages or at least 1000 words. This does not include the works cited page.
You must include at least six in-text citations. You should use at least two different sources.
The Essay is due by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 29- which is also the last day of the semester.

How would I structure this essay:
Intro/Thesis: I would start with an introduction that lists both novels and their authors. Give some context/background of the novels without giving away too many details that can be further used in the body paragraphs. Be sure to include what a mockingbird is in this context. This way, your readers will know what you mean by a mockingbird when they read your thesis statement.
Intro/Thesis: Then I would finish the introduction with a thesis statement that clearly states who I think is the true mockingbird from both novels. However, I would make it clear which of these two mockingbirds I have chosen as the overall mockingbird. This mockingbird will be your pro.
Body paragraphs: I would then talk about my pro, who is the person I chose as the overall mockingbird. Pro stance. This may take a few paragraphs. Give your readers examples of what happened to them in the novel for you to make this decision.
Body paragraphs: Then I would bring in my con, who is the second person I would choose as the mockingbird. I would argue in their favor as I oppose. Then I would make sure that I refute this person and make sure that my first choice comes out stronger in the end.
Conclusion: Summarize the essay.
