Explain how you should discuss the information from the website can contribute to positive or negative outcomes for the end-user of the website.
Module 4: Evaluation of internet websites (six websites are required) ** Family Nurse Practitioner**
Identify two (2) websites that a health care consumer might visit.
Find a website that a consumer who resembles the type of patient you currently see in your role as a nurse might would use for information (or misinformation). As an oncology nurse, I would look for a consumer web site that provides information about cancer or cancer treatment.
Choose at least one website that is related to your future role as an advanced practice nurse. If you are studying to be a Acute Care NP, then look for websites that would be of interest to the type of patient (and/or their families) you expect to be caring for.
Identify two (2) websites that you as a health care professional might use as a reference for information you need to perform your future job as a nurse practitioner. Hint: search for the websites that would
Identify two websites that are related to the topic of nursing/health informatics.
To find websites, go to a search engine (such as Google(TM) – or your favorite) put in the words nursing informatics and explore!
NOTE: the websites you choose can be reputable or not. If you can find a non-reputable site, your patients can too! Concentrate on what you see or read that you either agree with or don’t agree with.
A handout is posted in Module 4 that can guide you in the items that you are expected to evaluate at a minimum. You may discover others that are not on that list!
In addition, there’s an example of a simple template that you can use to complete the assignment. It’s a MS Word document that is in table-format. You can download it and use it if you wish to. It can be submitted in landscape format too if needed!
For this submission, a summary will do and really should not be over 6 pages or so. There’s no penalty if it’s only 2 or 3 pages. Design it any way you want.
If you want to do a chart in table format listing the sites, date accessed, strengths and weaknesses – that will work. If you choose to do it in outline form – that will work.
For this reference, it’s hard to say ‘APA format’ is required; especially if you are doing a table! Don’t stress of that. But do include the reference (s) in APA format for each website so that faculty can access it also.
