What is the social, economic and cultural role of the species to people, particularly Indigenous Peoples?

Use the species of plant or animal that is at risk in British Columbia (e.g., caribou, grizzly bear, spotted owl, pink sand-verbena etc.) that you selected in Part 1 as your topic. You will now write and submit your own individual Species Term Paper on the species that you and your group members have chosen. You can use the various scientific papers and reports available on the BCSEE (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/plants-animals-ecosystems/conservation-data-centre/explore-cdc-data/species-and-ecosystems-explorer) tool to do the research on the particular species that you have chosen as well as scientific journals and book in the library.
The Species Term Paper must review and discuss the ecology, conservation status, threats, sociocultural and economic use/value, and management of the species that you and your group have chosen as a topic. In writing your paper, use the following questions to help guide your research and writing:
Where is the chosen species found in British Columbia?
What is the ecological role of the species in its environment? (e.g., predator, herbivore, primary producer, decomposer etc.)
What is the social, economic and cultural role of the species to people, particularly Indigenous Peoples? For example, does it have cultural, subsistence or commercial value/use to people in subsistence or commercial fisheries, hunting/trapping, medicinal use etc.)
What are the characteristics of its habitat?
What is the current conservation status of the species?
What are the primary reasons for its population decline? (e.g., climate change, over-exploitation, habitat loss and degradation, pollution etc.)
Is the species legally listed and regulated under provincial law and policy in British Columbia or under the Species at Risk Act, federally?
Is the species the focus of provincial or federal recovery efforts under provincial or federal policy and law?
What management practices have been considered or are being employed in its recovery? (e.g., habitat protection and/or restoration, captive breeding, predator control etc.)
Have these recovery actions been effective or not and why?
