The following videos from the American Sociological Association present summaries of sociological research and research findings. Choose two (2) videos to watch. Write an essay using the format described below. The essay does not have to be written in a specific format such as MLA or APA but it does need to be written in the following four paragraph format and include proper spelling, punctuation and grammar. Be sure to discuss all required issues. There is no need to include formal references/citations for this assignment.
Paragraph #1 – Introduction. What you include in your introduction is really up to you:
You can simply introduce the issues discussed in the following paragraphs.
You can discuss what you’ve learned about the importance of sociological research.
You can introduce some common themes and concepts you found among the videos you selected.
Or you can take your own direction for this introduction paragraph.
Paragraph #2 – Video 1 summary and analysis:
Discuss the research methods used (how exactly did they gather their data? what were the advantages and disadvantages of the methods they used?).
Discuss which research orientation you believe best fits the researchers’ approach, and why.
Discuss the research findings.
Discuss how the research in the video relates to specific sociological issues and concepts of culture (Ch. 2), socialization (Ch. 3), and/or social interaction (Ch. 4) that we have covered (be specific).
Discuss why/how the research findings might be important to understand in our society and/or how the findings may be used to shape public policy.
Lastly, discuss what you found most interesting about the research methods, the importance of the findings to our society, or the implications of the research for public policy.
Paragraph #3 – Video 2 summary and analysis:
Discuss the research methods used (how exactly did they gather their data? what were the advantages and disadvantages of the methods they used?).
