Implicit Bias in modern hiring practices and how to overcome them

Qualitative & Quantitative Research Paper. Make it your own:

Each student must complete a research paper on a topic/or case study that we have covered in class, providing a
comprehensive analysis that includes what you found most intriguing, what were your takeaways, and your
suggestions for future research? I am open to various topics, ideas, and cases, so please run your thoughts by me.
Whenever possible, it is advised that you frame your paper around a real-world “problem of practice” that you
face in your current position. The paper’s content must be a minimum of 8 pages. Note: this page
length excludes the cover, abstract, and reference pages. In other words, the body of the research paper must be
a minimum of 8 pages (please keep within this page count for the body of the paper).
The paper must conform to the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Association (APA). Please contact a NEU reference librarian if you are unsure how to adhere to this writing style.
Many tutorials can assist you.
At a minimum, you must include at least six scholarly references referenced in your paper, ideally from peer-
reviewed journals. In addition, you want to include two in-text citations per page and reserve the latter part of
your paper for having your voice, a.k.a “positionality.” If you are unsure about a peer-reviewed journal, don’t
hesitate to contact a Northeastern University Snell Library reference librarian. You can access journal articles
through the Snell Library directly or through Illiad. Log in to Snell through NUOnline (Blackboard) or
your myneu account. Reference librarians are listed on the library site.
Research Paper Grading Rubric:
Content – Content refers to how well you address the assignment’s requirements – (see rubric below.)
Organization – Organization refers to how you structure your paper, including the logical progression of ideas, use
of transitions, paragraph structure, and effective use of introduction and conclusions. Your paper should have an
introduction (but do not label it introduction), approximately three main points with fully developed paragraphs
supporting these points, and end with a conclusion that both summaries and provides a critical analysis of the
topic.
Style – Style refers to your word choice, sentence structure, and overall grammar. For full credit, be concise and
precise in your language, use a variety of word and sentence formats, and create a writer’s voice and tone
appropriate to graduate-level writing. Research papers do not use personal pronouns such as ‘I,’ ‘my,’ or ‘me.’
Format/APA – Format refers to the paper length (Eight – but no greater than ten pages in the body, again, not
including the abstract, title page, or reference pages), formatting (double-spaced, 12-pt Times Roman font, one-
inch margins, 1/2 inch indentations of paragraphs), and adherence to all of the guidelines stipulated in the
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th or 7th Ed.)
