Instructions: In essay format describe the diversity and complexity of social protest movements in the US 1941-1973.
-Many Americans think that the Civil Rights Movement began in 1955 with Rosa Parks and ended with the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Historians would tell a broader story that begins in 1941 and extends into the early 1970’s, a story that eventually inspires parrallel movements seeking rights for other segments of the US population.
-Write an essay that presents this larger conception of civil rights and expands beyond narrow definitions of the past. Make connections between topics and themes in American history and see beyond narrow definitions of historical topics.
-When you think about the Civil right rights movement which group is the one you see being discriminated against and thus protesting for greater rights?

Thesis: The essay has a clear introduction and a thesis that accurately conveys the main points and arguments contained in the body of the essay.
Evidence: The essay contains numerous examples of appropriate, specific, historical evidence. Direct quotes drawn from the text are indicated as such using quotation marks, and are cited appropriately.
Structure: The essay follows a logical sequence that makes arguments and their supporting evidence clear to the reader.
Scope: The essay answers all parts of the question completely.
Prose: The prose is clear, grammatically correct, and contains few or no typographical errors.
Perspective: The essay considers the historical issues from the multiple perspectives of relevant groups within American society.
