We’ll be reading the entirety of Chapter 1 of our World Religions: Western Traditions (WRWT) textbook, focusing on the study of Western religions.
Prompt 2: Notice that in the academic study of religion, we are not interested in evaluating the validity of particular truth claims regarding particular traditions’ sacred stories. Rather, as scholars of religion we undertake critical investigations of the various dimensions of different religious traditions—ritual, material, ideological, etc.—and attempt to develop comparative models to help us develop overarching theories about the religious dimensions of human culture.
