What is the situation, What is the external environment, a cultural audit, a process audit.

You will need to complete your Macro-level analysis first – remember – What is the situation, What is the external environment, a cultural audit, a process audit. Researching Apollo 13 and NASA will not be a good use of time). All of the facts are present in the movie, this assignment is designed to build our listening and observing skills.
Once you complete your Macro-level analysis you will need to choose your Micro-level analysis approach: consider the choice, development, alignment, and effectiveness ie: Differentiation and/or integration (intergroup vs. intragroup) approach (or lens). Make sure you use facts from the situational overview and the environmental analysis to support your choice(s). Why was this approach (lens) used? The Model (7S, 6Box, Gelinas James, etc etc) Why was a particular model used? Draw on what happened in the Apollo 13 movie and research the models.
Once you pick the model, apply it by looking at all aspects of the model – which components of the model were supportive, and which were detrimental? Why? This is where you would use the tools (FF Analysis, F Bone, Sociagram etc). Use the diagnostic tools within the model – look at each component of the model. Use the tools to help describe what your analysis of the situation/outcome/process etc is telling you. Make sure you go deep with your analysis. Often asking a ‘few whys’ will facilitate this process. Provide evidence! Take lots of notes when you watch the movie.
Look deep at the root causes (remember, “Effect” can be negative, positive or both) – often, analysis tends to be superficial. Again, I am looking for you to ‘go deep’ in analyzing ‘what happened and why it happen’ – if you don’t go deep, recommendations may not provide the desired outcome. Remember, I am looking for you to provide recommendations to Nasa, but please only “the why” your recommendation(s) would help – not the how!
Then your final performance conclusion. Here a SWOT or TWOS can help organize you insights to get to your concluding performance assessment statements.

Use your business writing skills – often, a picture/table/diagram with supporting evidence, good headings and flow are better than long paragraphs that lack clarity. Make sure each section of the report flows from the previous section. Ask yourself, am I making this easy for a reviewer to follow or, is it convoluted and scattered forcing the reviewer to scroll up and down to make connections?

THIS PAPER WILL ANALYZE OR ASSESS THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CAPSULE TEAM (NOT THE MISSION TEAM)
– HOW DID THEY PERFORM? WHAT ENABLED THE PERFORMANCE? WHAT INHIBITED PERFORMANCE?

no external sources required – only the movie Apollo 13

THE WHAT, THE WHY THE HOW, THEN WHEN, THEY HOW

REPORT LAYOUT:

2. Marco Level analysis
– situational fact collecting (facts aimed at the capsule team)
-environmental analysis – MUST be a PESTEL model

3. The Les and View (the models that MUST be used: Tuckmans teamwork model, McKinley 7s model)
– what is it you are about to analysis?
– what are the relationships at play?
