Activity 1: Team Discussion
Teams discuss their tables completed in the task on what the issues are at Mercy and how they compare to the IOM recommendations. Add to or modify your table based on the discussion.
Activity 2: Case Study – An Extended Stay
As a team read the case study, working through each part as it unfolds.
Analyze the situation and what occurs.
Make a graphic poster to show the unfolding of events that affect the patient and pose quality control issues for the hospital. Relate the findings to IOM standards.
Then answer the discussion questions at the end.
Activity 3: Chasing Zero
Choose one area where Mercy Hospital is clearly not meeting the quality standards of care. Develop a plan to address the issue that will bring Mercy more in line with the IOM standards and recommendations.
