1. What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable that the authors are
interested in studying?
2. What is some COMMON wisdom about this topic? (This is referred to as the “customary
explanation” and is found on p. 533.
3. Are stress and anxiety (as Gadarian and Albertson have studied it) the same thing or different
things?
4. Do you see any overlaps between Hassell and Settle’s work and Gadarian and Albertson’s work?
