review the model of the final report before starting
2nd assignment
For this assignment, I need to see you complete a brief 4-6 minute presentation on your research reports. You will need to complete this by submitting a short video of the presentation and sending it to me online.
Items to cover in the presentation include:
1) An overview of your field and your interest in it
2) The education, certifications, skills, etc. required to enter the field
3) The potential for growth, pay scale, and promotions
4) Some pros and cons to being in this field
5) The company that you would most like to work for
6) Any other material that you would like to add here (optional)
The presentation will require a visual aid to help with it. Typically, students use PowerPoint as the default program, but Prezi, wiki’s, or other methods of electronic slide shows/presenting are allowed as well.
Delivery of the presentation:
Using technology, you create a video of your presentation and upload it to the assignment page OR (if the file is too large), e-mail it right to me. You may use a laptop’s camera and microphone to record yourself if you would like (or your phone; whatever recording device works). If you would rather deliver the presentation through your slide show, then I believe that the best tool for that would be Screencast-O-Matic. It is free, it allows you to record your computer screen and record your voice to narrate at the same time (though you will need a microphone in all likelihood to do so), and it will allow you to record up to 15 minutes of video at one time that you can save to your computer (the videos I created in class were created through it). You can create a presentation, save it as an .avi file to your computer, and send it to me to view and grade.
IF YOUR FILE DOES NOT UPLOAD IN ONE PIECE TO MOODLE, YOU CAN SPLIT IT UP OR SEND IT TO ME THROUGH E-MAIL.
Grading of this presentation is as follows:
120 points: Overall content. How well are you covering all six of the highlighted areas above? Does your presentation have depth by elaborating on key points and elements that you raise, or are you simply reading back to me what is on your slides? If it is the latter, there are usually deductions. Part of doing a good presentation is being able to explain what you are bringing up in a fuller context to the audience and not merely reciting what the audience can read themselves. Please try to expand on ideas when discussing them here for the most points possible.
20 points: Smoothness of the presentation. Are there technical issues that impede presentation that could have been avoided? Does the presentation come across as choppy or jumping all over the place? Does the speaker seem to become lost in their notes or ideas and loses track of what they were discussing? If the answer is yes, there may be deductions.
10 points: Time. The presentation calls for a 4-6 minutes to be used to present. Going over or under these parameters brings
penalties as follows:
Over/Under 30 seconds to 1 minute: 2 point loss
Over/Under 1 minute, 1 second to 2 minutes, 30 seconds: 6 point loss
Over/Under 2 minutes, 30 seconds: 10 point loss
3rd assignment
For this last assignment, please do the following:
In a minimum of two (2) paragraphs, please explain what aspect of technical writing you feel will apply most to your future career field. It may be as straightforward as the resume and cover letter for application or more complicated with the use of reports and visuals or presentations to be able to express information to others.
This can be a more free form exercise here, but I would like to see a fuller response here for all of the points. Responses that are short or not completely explaining why you feel the way you do may be subject to deductions. ‘
