The Windshield Survey is an activity worth 120 points.
Complete a brief windshield survey of your local area. You can do this by driving through an area and really noticing your community. Pretend you are seeing it through a stranger’s eyes. Are there sidewalks, people outside, businesses, police or fire stations, traffic, and parks in use? Look for what you see, as well as, what you do not see.
You are encouraged to narrow your survey to a Zip Code if you live in a larger town/city. You should survey the area at least twice – different days and times. This gives you a better overview of the area. Remember your key person interviews will be people who either live or have a vested interest in the area you survey.
It is helpful to have a family member or someone else drive, so you are able to survey the area and make notes. Please do not drive and make notes or go into an area that you feel unsafe.
If you have to get out of your car to see things, it does not belong in the windshield survey.
Hours spent on the windshield survey should be included in the Clinical Hour Log that is posted under Week One Module. Be specific in documenting your activities on the log.
The assignment should be completed as a Power Point presentation using APA 7th edition formatting. You should have a title slide and reference slide.
A minimum of five pictures should be included in the presentation. You may submit whatever you feel documents your findings. Do Not submit pictures of addresses, license plates or peoples faces.
Your textbook gives you a complete outline on page 383 Table 17.5 of the components that should be included.
This will be used to tie your key person interviews and online community assessment together to create the summary.
Windshield Survey Grading Rubric:

Topic: Windshield Overview (90 pts)
Uses the textbook as a guide for the Windshield Survey. Addresses each category in a comprehensive fashion. There are 15 categories worth 6 points each.
Topic: Power Point (20 pts)
The windshield survey is presented as a Power Point. Feel free to use different colors, fonts, and formats so long as the presentation is easy to read and clean looking. You may use voice over or attach a video but this is optional and in no way mandatory.
Topic: Pictures (10 pts)
Attach a minimum of five pictures that supports the written findings of the windshield survey. No picture should have a home address or faces of people. You do not have written permission to use such things are you are not expected to obtain that either.
