Again, you will see Jesus providing the example needed to understand effective human resource management practices. A robust mentoring plan can mean all the difference to a new graduate, while leaning into the “eating our young” approach can leave a vacant position quickly! Although now a classic, the assigned Walker (2004) article provides you a succinct commentary on how Jesus shared wonderful examples of mentoring with us in the Bible. You will consider your own experiences, both as a new graduate and a nurse leader, and share experiences with your classmates. And you will explore a similar term known as precepting and how it also contributes to workforce development.

While several scriptures are assigned, reading the full account of Jesus’ ministry in any of the gospels will give you a wider understanding of how He mentored. Feel free to cite additional scriptures where you find interesting examples!

Consider how the Bible portrays Jesus’ relationship with the disciples. How do you see the mentoring process exemplified? Explore what it means to be a preceptor. Explain how this is different from mentoring. How do you see both processes contributing to workforce development?
