1. Tell me what a typical day on the job is like for you.
– A typical day on the job as a public defender involves going to court and to the jail to assist clients facing criminal charges. My job also involves trying cases before a judge and jury.
2. How and why did you decide to pursue this career?
– I chose this career in order to protect the constitutional rights of the people in our community.
3. What do you like most and least about your job and the field you are in?
– My favorite part about my job is conducting legal research and writing motions related to the 4th Amendment of the United States Constitution. The part that I like the least about my job is seeing my clients get sentenced to prison and taken away from their families.
4. What are the qualities or personal characteristics you feel makes someone a good fit for this career? What would make this NOT the right fit for someone?
– Qualities that would make someone a good fit for this career include compassion, patience, and dedication. This career is not appropriate for a person that has trouble managing stress and is not organized with their time.
5. What are the specific job options within this career field?
– Our office employs lawyers, investigators, paralegals, and legal assistants.
6. What job would I start in right out of school, and what would my career progression look like?

– In order to be a public defender you have to graduate from law school and become a member of the Florida Bar.
7. What is the job market like? How difficult is it to get a job? What types of companies hire people for this job?
– It is difficult to become a lawyer and you have to dedicate a lot of time to your education and training.
8. What are the educational requirements for this career? What will I need in addition to my degree to be able to get a job?
– You have to pass a rigorous background check and written examination with the Florida Bar.
9. What did you find most challenging about law school?
– The most challenging part about law school is learning how read and interpret case law.
10. Describe your approach in the courtroom.
– It is best to treat everyone with respect when you are in a courtroom.
