After reading the article carefully, use your burgeoning knowledge of English 1C analysis to assess how persuasive it is in a complete, well-organized essay (with your own introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, and a conclusion).
Questions to consider:
1. What are the strengths? What points best support the thesis?
2. What kinds of reasoning does the author use, such as statistics, analogies, cause/effect reasoning? Powerful language, imagery, or other persuasive devices?
3. What are the weaknesses? What parts diminish the quality of the argument?
4. Are there fallacies, contradictions, inconsistencies, unsupported claims, speculations, unwarranted assumptions, non-credible references, biased language?
5. What is your own point of view on the issue discussed and how does it compare to the author’s or the typical reader’s? Give specific examples and quotes which support your assessment of the writing.
6. Are you convinced by the evidence? Why or why not? Please give examples.
