Essay Two: Rhetorical Analysis1.Make sure that you have read Chapter 4: Writing a Rhetorical Analysis inPractical Argument.2.Choose one of the readings in Chapter 25: Classical Arguments, whichbegins on page 755 in Practical Argument.3.Write a 800- to 1000-word rhetorical analysis in which you examine thework for the three rhetorical devices: logos, pathos, and ethos and discusshow the author uses rhetorical devices to achieve each of the three devices.4.The essay must include a strong introductory paragraph that ends with thethesis as well as a concluding paragraph that restates the thesis without usingexact words.5.Each body paragraph should contain a topic sentence that relates to thethesis and identifies the rhetorical strategy being analyzed, two documentedpieces of strong textual evidence, thorough explanations of the author’slikely purpose for each statement, and a concluding sentence that give theparagraph a finished feel. A suggested structure is as follows:Introduction—Introduce the work and end with your thesis.Part2: Logos—Provide two quotes that exemplify logos. For each, explain the rhetorical devices the author employs to educate his/her audience.Part3: Pathos—Provide two quotes that exemplify pathos. For each, explain the rhetorical devices the author employsto appeal to his audience’s emotions.Part4: Ethos—Provide two quotes that exemplify ethos.
