Below is Primary Source Assignment One President William McKinley’s inaugural speech. The writing assignments range should be 2-3 pages in length which includes the questions below in paragraph form. All should be 12 point font, double spaced. The writing assignments will be turned in through Turn-it-in to check for plagiarism. Be sure to include a works cited page for each writing assignment listing all sources used. (Only sources to be used for citing are your textbook & primary source). Internet sources will not be accepted. Students who use Internet sources will receive a “0” on the assignment. Six points are allocated for content and coherence of the argument, which also includes providing three to four evidence from the source supporting the argument, two points for mechanics and grammar and 2 points for in text and works cited page. Student will only cite and include in their works cited page the textbook and the primary source. Primary sources can be found within each module that is assigned. Below are questions to use when reading the source and what to include when preparing for the writing assignment. Paper should include introduction body and conclusion addressing below questions. A. When was the source written and by who?
B. What is the author arguing in the source? It could be that there are multiple arguments?
C. Who is the audience?
D. What evidence or examples does the author provide in the source to substantiate the argument? (Provide at least three to four)
E. Why is the source significant in the context of the time period?
F. Do you agree or disagree with the source? Why or why not?
