IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION FOR INDUSTRY 4.0 ADAPTATION: THE MATURITY OF TURKISH AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR

1. Drivers of Research
There are companies that do not
have the awareness and the resources to become compatible to adapt the Industry
4.0 technologies.

Companies might find it
strategically tricky, and of little value to place themselves in one of the
first defined levels (i.e., ML 1) of existing maturity models.
·
Starting point is often a
disconnect from the average level of smartness (i.e., digitalization and
(smart) automation capabilities).
·
Companies that do not have the
awareness and the resources to become compatible to adapt the Industry 4.0
technologies. Therefore, it may be believed that there is a definite need of
specifying a ML-1 for SMEs that may separate their position from the other
advanced SMEs.

The awareness of digital technologies
that thus far have not been relevant to ML-1 businesses.

A company at ML-1 may need to
invest more in purchasing the required technology and set a platform for the
employee participation and organization culture

Showing a systematic
methodology leading towards Industry 4.0 may help motivating other companies to
move towards a company-specific Industry 4.0 vision
