Basically this is a two part assignment.
First part that needs to be done is the Topic Worksheet

Using all your preparation from weeks 1 & 2 you were asked to narrow your topic options to 3. Using the information from the “Choosing a Topic Assignment” and all discussions from week 1 and 2, as well as the prep work you have done, write a paragraph about each potential topic from your “Choosing a Topic Assignment” worksheet.
Below is a list of topics that should be avoided for your semester long research topic – remember that you need to choose an issue-based problem, and then conduct research to solve the problem. The solution to the problem will be your claim. This week, you are working on exploring topics in Google, “Google Scholar”, social media outlets, etc. to investigate topics that are in line with your college major, career interest, or another issue that you are interested in that will work with a solution-based claim.
Avoid these topics:
Gun control
Legalization of Marijuana
Abortion
Topics based on religion
Euthanasia (if you want to be a veterinarian, and there is a specific topic with this, I may allow it)
Salary related issues (every professional wants a higher salary)
Less working hours (every professional wants to work less hours)
Human Trafficking (unless you can directly apply this to a career – but this topic is often too broad for the career related topics in ENG 112)
**Don’t try to research “how to” related topics such as “how to be a nurse” or how to do a job.
*** You must choose an issue related topic (a problem), and then you will be developing the topic into a solution-based claim.
Complete the attached worksheet to help you choose a topic for the semester.
Second part is to explain those topics in three paragraphs and foruth paragraph pick the topic
Explain the topic, why it’s controversial and why it interests you. How will the topic help you in your field of study and in your profession? If you are not doing a topic related to your major, how can the topic you have chosen help people of that field, or just people in general. Once you have discussed the 3 topics in three paragraphs, write a 4th paragraph that discusses which topic you have chosen to research this semester and why it appealed to you the most.
Criteria for this assignment:

Must be at least 500 words.
· Answer all the questions listed in the prompt for each topic.
· Must use a Microsoft Word Document. Any other document form will not be accepted.
· APA formatted (This is only required for the final submission where all portfolio entries are combined. However you can put your work in APA for each submission if you desire).
· Double spaced.
· Size 12 Times New Roman font.
· Written in first person (This means that you can use “I, me”) Some 3rd person is allowed however, DO NOT USE 2nd person at all!
· Free of grammatical errors (No contractions, fragments, comma splices, run-ons, etc.).
