Introduction
When people first discover the creative process, they recognize that this system surpasses the informal and haphazard approach they have taken their whole lives. A lightbulb turns on when they see that someone (actually, many people) have taken the time to reflect on the creative process, write it down, and articulate it. This can be both comforting, in the sense of recognition, and jarring, in the form of regret. Many people admit, “I can’t believe I have been missing this until now! I wish I had known about this decades ago!” The overwhelming reaction, though, reflects their excitement and a renewed sense of possibility and agency. People feel more empowered with a process in hand. Knowing how to problem-solve is transformational and allows us to bring, reliably and on-demand, something novel and useful into our world.
