Discuss three ways you and your family have fun in Hawaii while spending very little money.
Choice Two: Sustainability
Inform your reader about sustainability. Give three examples of sustainability in Hawaii. For example, you might discuss sustainable farming, recycling, energy efficiency, electric vehicles, water recycling and purification, ocean preservation, sustainable living communities and “going green” hotels, schools, and businesses.
With this semester’s theme of “Keeping it Local,” consider the term sustainability.
The terms Sustainable and Sustainability are used to describe many different approaches toward improving our way of life. Sustainability does not (and should not) have a rigid definition. Here are some views of what Sustainability can encompass:
Sustainability means reducing our harm on the environment and ultimately reversing the harm we have already caused.
Sustainability means renewing resources at a rate equal to or greater than the rate at which they are consumed.

• Sustainability means living within the resources of the planet without damaging the environment now or in the future.
• Sustainability means creating an economic system that provides for quality of life while renewing the environment and its resources.
• A sustainable community is one that resembles a living system where all of the resources (human, natural, and economic) are renewed and in balance for perpetuity.
• Sustainability means taking the long-term view of how our actions effect future generations and making sure we don’t deplete resources or cause pollution at rates faster than the earth is able to renew them.
• Sustainability means living a life of dignity in harmony with nature.

Here are some hints that might help you write an effective paper:
• You need a clear thesis that must be stated in the first paragraph. A thesis is your opinion about an issue. You should also define what you are talking about in the first paragraph. What do you mean by “sustainability”? What do you mean by “going green”? What are the steps you take to clean up your environment? Consider what you do to end plastic pollution or save wildlife, particularly regarding the ocean. What three ways is Hawaii involved with ocean cleanup.
• Each paragraph must include an example, fully explained. That is what an illustration paper is.
• Paragraphs generally should be at least five sentences, including a variety of complex, compound, and simple sentences.
• Provide a conclusion that summarizes what you said in your paper and what significance it might have.
