Relationship between sleep quality, well-being and mindfulness

Please follow the steps and the provided links as it relates to the assignment and how I will be marked

Step 1.
The first step will be to read the research literature provided. This will enable you introduce the study focus and aim and to define all key constructs. For the body of the introduction you will be required to build a logical valid argument (rationale) for a proposed direction of relationship between mindfulness, well-being and sleep in your introduction. For example, your introduction may build a rationale for greater mindfulness being associated with enhanced well-being and better sleep quality. You will also be required to self-source at least one, or two at most, additional research literature to help you write your introduction and define core concepts and constructs, or to add further support for your pending set of hypotheses.

Step 2.
In keeping with the rationale presented in your introduction, you will need to formulate three clear “directional” hypotheses.

As your last paragraph of the introduction section you will introduce your hypotheses. Please include a variant for each of the three hypotheses. You may use the wording verbatim (note you may modify any hypothesis to suit your introductory rationale), however, you must choose the directional wording (see options in bold) that matches you rationale presented in your introduction section.
H1: It was anticipated that mindfulness would be significantly positively/negatively correlated with well-being, and mindfulness would be significantly positively/negatively correlated (note you may use “related” of “associated” in place of correlation to fit with your introduction language if you wish) with sleep quality.
H2: It was hypothesised that those who practice mindfulness meditation would report significantly greater/lower well-being as opposed to those who do not practice mindful mediation.
H3: In addition, it was anticipated that those who reported practicing mindfulness meditation would report significantly greater/lower sleep quality as opposed to those who did not report practicing mindful mediation.

Step 3.
To determine if the proposed hypotheses are supported or not, you will be given a set of research report results, (Friday 22 July). The results you will be assessing will came from the online survey that you as a member of the current PSYC102 cohort generated when responding to the self-reported measures on well-being, sleep quality and a mindfulness.

Note: By design, the results provided to you late in week 4 need to be assessed after you have written your introduction and have determined the statement of effect (statistical significance) and direction of hypotheses. This process is in keeping with real life research methodology. As a researcher (think 4th year honour projects), when designing a research study you must critically review the literature on a topic of interest first, then postulate a set of hypotheses to test your research idea. You would then gather data (experimental or through cross section data collection such as participation in a survey), analyse that data using the correct statistical tests to help determine if the hypotheses are supported or not. So by following the assignment step 1 and step 2 (sequentially) you will in keeping with this research methodology. Starting from a set of results and working back to fit the results to a set of hypotheses and an introduction is not in keeping with valid scientific research approach.

Step 4.
Method

Participants: From the results document provided, you will find demographic information pertaining to who the sample comprises (e.g., 1st year psychology students, UNE), the sample size(s), age, and gender. As per APA reporting standards, you need to report adequate demographic data such as the mean and standard deviation, and range of ages of participants, number and percentage of each identified gender, and an any sub group demographics (e.g., those who reported practicing mindful meditation and those not practicing). Please review the example participant section on page 138 of your writing reports for psychology guide (Burton, 2021). The participant section of your method will count towards your word count for the assignment.

Measures; I will provide the measures description for each scale used in the study. You may add the measures provided verbatim. Please review the displaying of measures in a report (example provided) on page 138-139 of your writing guide (Burton, 2021). The provided measures (for this assignment) will NOT count towards you word count.

Procedure: I will provide the procedure for the report, you may modify, however, you may also cut and paste verbatim in your method section. See example provided on page 139 of your writing guide for reports by Burton (2021). The provided procedure (for this assignment) will NOT count towards you word count.

Step 5.
Results (Analysed result will be made available Friday 22 July)
The result section of your research report needs to report the results you have been provided to indicate if the directional hypotheses were supported, or not. Please review on page 103 to 115 of your interactive approach to writing essays and reports in psychology how to report results.
There is an example of the display of results in a report section on pages 139 and 140 of Burton (2021). Along with providing in text report of results, you are required to include a correlation table in the results section of your report. Note: Please do not follow the example of placing tables in the appendix of the report (we will not have an appendix for this assignment), please present your correlation table in the results section. Please refrain from doubling up on result information in text and in tables. I will cover this in more detail in the report tutorial in week 5 of the trimester.

Step 6.
Discussion
Remind the reader of the objectives of your study and restate your findings in relation to each hypothesis. Then, interpret each finding in relation to theory and previous findings and outline the broader implications of these findings. Describe any shortcomings or limitations of your research and provide a concluding paragraph.

Step 7.
Abstract. Write your concise abstract last. See the marking rubric and Burton writing guide for information on how to construct an abstract.

Step 8.
Construct your reference list, see writing guide of clarification
