The prompt below wants you think about the relationship between business and the well-being of society. They can be thought of as being rather independent: bussiness is a private matter for the benefit of its investors; society is, at best, in the care of government. But does that define the relationship properly. Are corporations not parts of society, protected by government, often subsidized with taxpayer funds. Do they also share some responsibility for the well-being of society? Keep that question in mind as you reflect on the prompt below.

sacrifice profits to avoid price increases, provide special training
programs and jobs for the hard-core unemployed, expend resources to
minimize environmental pollution (beyond what is required by law), avoid
or dispose of lucrative investments in nations that systematically
violate human right? Defend your answer carefully.
