Please comment on this post by my classmate. Topic is about leadership. I am agreeing with her statement. CMIO means Chief Medical Informatics Officer. Make the comment not too formal. Thank you.

“As I was reading the six domains of leadership by Sitkin et al., (2006) I immediately thought of our CMIO and how her characteristics and actions are identified in all the domains.

Personal leadership domain:
Our CMIO is authentic, dedicated and credible. She did a great job leading us through the Epic enterprise build and Go Live. Due to her previous successful IT (Information Technology) projects she had the credibility to lead the Epic project. Hospital leadership and the Information Systems team saw her as a qualified leader. As a practicing physician, she definitely has her “skin in the game” to make the the transition to Epic as smooth as possible and to assure an optimal product. She was always very open and honest and understood the challenges that we would face

Relational leader domain:
Our CMIO has built trust. She always stopped to talk to everyone and took the time to get to know the team. She was always quick to give praise and encourage. You felt heard and listened to.

Contextual leader domain:
Our CMIO has built a strong community. The “Go live team” had a sense of shared identity and pride.

Inspirational and Supportive Leadership:
The team definitely had a expectation of excellence. When we had build issues we all worked together to brainstorm and rally our resources to fix the issues. There was always a passion and optimism that it could get done. We had a lot of internal support. If we weren’t getting the answers that we needed our CMIO would intervene on the Epic as well as the operational side. She often acted as a ‘Buffer’. Negative or doubting comments were often not shared as she was aware that these comments may have a negative effect on the team moving forward. There was definitely a culture of learning and not blame. Epic was new to everyone and we were all learning how to build. We often would have ‘lessons learned’ meeting after a particular goal was met.

Ethical leadership.
Our CMIO is a role model for our organization. It is great to see her stop and talk with patients in the hallway. They appreciate her taking the time and feel truly cared for. She is vey encouraging about taking time off to care for yourself and creates a positive work life balance.
