Reconstruct your personal history as a reader and as a writer in school.

TASK: Reconstruct your personal history as a reader and as a writer in school. REFLECT, REMEMBER, and TAKE NOTES:
• What were your formative experiences? Was there a teacher who helped you significantly improve your writing? A
specific assignment?
• Were there events that discouraged you from thinking of yourself as a writer? Or
as a creative person? DOCUMENT AND DISCUSS:
• Your experiences with reading and writing in school.
• Present moments of learning and moments of unlearning or frustration. Use
specific examples of papers you have written in the past. You probably have these examples still on your computer from high school.
Your autobiography will provide a snapshot of how you evaluate yourself as reader and a wrtier at the beginning of your time working with Habits of the Creative Mind. As you move through the book’s essays and practice sessions, you will return to your autobiography to see if your sense of what reading and writing are for has changed as a result of your efforts to use writing as a technology for thinking new thoughts.
Your essay will be 3 full pages long, in MLA format, and properly researched—see syllabus for sample heading and specific requirements.
As part of your paper submission, you will respond to the following POST-PAPER REFLECTION QUESTIONS on the last page of your paper:
1) In your own words, describe the objectives of Essay 1.
2) What was the purpose of the paper (Why did you have to do it?) Connect to any key
ideas/concepts/terms from the course to help you justify your paper.
3) Think a little about how you wrote your paper. What role do you think location or space
had on your writing process?
• What worked for you?
• What do you want to keep in that space?
• What do you want to remove?
4) From start to finish, what does your ideal writing process look like?
5) What parts of the paper did you find easy to write? Why?
6) What parts of the paper did you struggle with? What did you do to overcome that
struggle?
7) Overall, how well do you feel like you did on the paper? Why?
