Born into poverty in Scotland, Andrew Carnegie started from the bottom up, making a fortune in the United States steel industry. He believed in the “Gospel of Wealth” which meant that based on moral principles the wealthy are obligated to give their money back to society. Carnegie was a catalyst in Industrial Revolution, helping build and expand the United States.
