Professional Paper Assignment

There will be two short (2-3 pages) professional paper assignments. The assignments will resemble an article review and have practical orientations, assessing your understanding of the research method process using a professional practice area of research (e.g. health disparities, occupational therapy, rehabilitation counseling, speech-language pathology, athletic training, etc.).

Instructions for Professional Paper Assignments:
1. Refer to Section 1, Chapter 1 of our main text, Priester & Jones (2021) entitled, “The Research Method Process: An Integrative and Transdiciplinary Model”.

2. You will be using Table 1 (pg. 5) to synthesize a peer reviewed research article.

3. Choose a peer reviewed article on one of the practical areas of research (e.g. health disparities, occupational therapy, rehabilitation counseling, speech-language pathology, athletic training, etc.). You can use a credible database (e.g. PubMED, Google Scholar, etc.), to search for an article of interest.

4. In part 1 of your paper, provide a general overview of your chosen professional practice area of research (e.g. health disparities, occupational therapy, rehabilitation counseling, speech-language pathology, athletic training, etc.).

5. In part 2 of your paper, using Table 1 from your text (pg. 5), summarize your peer reviewed article. What is the research question? What type of data did they use? How did the authors gather the data? How did the authors analyze the data? Was the research question answered? What were some of the implications of your research? What are some limitations of the research?

5. In part 3 of your paper, you will be providing a reflection. (1) Please provide a brief critique of the research article. What were your thoughts about the article? Was it easy/difficult to understand? (2) Please comment on how the results of your chosen study may suggest future research. What are some new research questions that you have after reading the article?

**Please make sure your Professional Paper aligns with APA 7th edition formatting (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html). You do not need an abstract. Please let me know if you have any questions. **
