Write a 1200 – 1500 word research essay in which you critique a narrative or argument based on such criteria as its significance, relevance, accuracy, credibility, and/or authoritativeness. To critique is to evaluate how far you feel you can trust or endorse the narrative or argument’s main message. Even in cases where you feel the narrative or argument is highly dependable, you can still point out gaps, flaws, and/or areas where the narrative or argument could be developed further. Your evaluation is not about how you feel about the writer’s message: You might personally disagree with an author yet find that she or he makes a strong case; or you might judge as weakly constructed an argument or narrative message that you personally agree with.
