Introduction
Note: Developing a project management plan requires specific steps that must be carried out in a certain order. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.
A project manager is ordering a pizza at her favorite pizzeria. Up on the wall, a sign reads:
We offer three kinds of service. You can pick any two!
Good and Cheap but not Fast.
Cheap and Fast but not Good.
Fast and Good but not Cheap.
Any questions?
Even in a pizza ordering scenario, the project triple constraint can be identified by:
Time = Fast.
Cost = Cheap.
Quality = Good.
The project manager wonders how she can have all three. What has to be accomplished? In project management, the triple constraint key attributes consisting of time, costs, and scope (quality) must be managed effectively for successful project completion. An expert project manager understands the dependencies of the triple constraint and that adjusting one attribute will have impacts on the other two attributes.
In project management, the project scope dictates required work, time, and costs. Expected results define the required quality. Performance is the completion of that work. If a project leader is going to influence costs, time, or quality, he or she must examine methods.
This assessment will help you gain an understanding of the complexity and variability of projects and the concepts of project scope management. It is important to recognize that while each project is based on a unique set of requirements, the project will ultimately affect the enterprise as a whole.
Project Management Institute Standards
The Project Management Institute (PMI) developed standards and best practices in the field of project management. These standards and practices are used throughout the project life cycle. As a project manager, it is your responsibility to adapt these standards and best practices to effectively manage your individual projects.
A project scope plan is a collection of processes, tools, and techniques required to successfully complete a project.
Note: Complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.
