R. 3165 To amend the Public Health Service Act to establish direct care
registered nurse-to-patient staffing ratio requirements in hospitals and for
other purposes.
The purpose of this assignment is to
research a current health policy-related Bill and then analyze the Bill and any
amendments of the Bill. As part of the assignment, you will write a letter to a
legislator explaining the role of nurses and their impact on health care
Write a 5-7 page paper analyzing the Bill and any
amendments. You will also write a one-page letter as a separate document for
this letter to the legislator. Address
the following points in your paper:
a. Describe
the purpose of the Bill. This should be
a summary of the Bill in your own words.
b. What
aspects of health care will be affected, and in what way?
c. Who
might be perceived as beneficiaries of the Bill? Explain why (Nurses and
Patient)
Who might be perceived as being adversely affected? Explain why.
d. How
is your target population affected
by this Bill? (Nurses and Patients)
e. Choose
one of the items above and write a 1-page letter to your legislator regarding
your views on the issue. Briefly outline
why you think nurses should be involved in this Bill. The letter should be written as a formal
business letter and single-spaced. Let
the legislator know that you appreciate their support regarding nurses’
involvement with this Bill.
