Reading Responses: Over the course of the semester, you will write a brief analysis of two
supplemental chapters or articles. These essays are intended to encourage you to think more deeply
about scholarship and learn how to become a better writer by closely observing strengths and
weaknesses in academic writing. Each response should be at least 1 ½ double-spaced typed pages
in length and must do the following:
• Delineate the author’s thesis or major points
• Analyze the structure of the author’s argument (i.e., types of evidence used)
• Evaluate the persuasiveness of the author’s thesis
Reading responses should adhere to the rules of correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. For each date, please read and analyze one item from each group below.
