In this activity, you will be investigating the forms of minority-dominant group patterns of social interaction. Be sure to complete both step 1 and step 2.
1) Segregation is common in both cities and suburbs, as well as within social arenas. Investigate whether racial segregation is evident where you previously and currently live and attend school. Your essay should discuss where you grew up and where you currently live and your college campus.
Refer first to where you grew up and discuss the racial composition of your neighborhood and school. Was this similar or different compared to the racial composition of your town or city as a whole?
If you live off-campus, walk around a five-block radius of your dwelling and observe the racial composition of your neighborhood.
If you live on-campus, talk about segregation within your dorm and in the cafeteria.
Finally, observe groups of people on campus that are voluntarily socializing. What are the racial compositions of these groups?
