Critique sheet for Proposal Paper
1. Do you make a convincing case that a problem exists and is serious enough to warrant the proposal? Have you shown scope via others that problem exists and is serious?
2. Is there a mini-causal analysis?
3. What are your carrots and sticks? Do they work to woo the target audience? Have resistances been addressed?
4. In your own words, what is your proposal? Is it clear enough, detailed enough, logical and feasible? Is it targeted properly — too wide, too narrow?|
Does your adopted proposal strategy work — pistoned, buffet, tiered? Piggy backing?
Are your proposal ideas concrete? Are there stages of implementation? Are real dollar numbers, time lines, evidence, etc. employed as needed?
5. Do you clearly illustrate how your proposal will solve or make a dent in the problem? Are you being realistic about your goals?
6. Do you consider objections and alternative solutions? Again, do you address your target audience’s resistances?
7. Do you employ sources at all key points to give substance to your case and to support your assertions? Are those sources effectively integrated into the paper and is the Works Cited accurate? Is all source material cited, summarized or quoted properly?
Remember the personal interview citation:
Jones, Chuck. Personal interview. 25 June 2018.
8. Have you considered every angle in regards to the solution? Are there things you miss, or objections overlooked? This one’s key: read critically and don’t ignore the reality of your issues.
9. Is there a well thought out title? Is it appropriate to task?
10. If you were the target audience, would you implement the plan? Why yes or why not?
11. Is this a proposal or a position essay? Remember, this should be a proposal. If you are only arguing that something needs to be done, you have a position essay. You must have a clear implementable plan.
12. Are you being diplomatic in tone and approach?
