3) How does Lolita style engage with concepts of gender, power, and historical values in Japanese society? There is no one answer, rather, choose a particular scene or passage from the week’s assigned works to discuss the possible ways that this fashion engages with concepts of the individual and their relationship to others. 4) In Wim Wender’s film Notebooks on Cities and Clothes, how does the city figure into the work of Yohji Yamamoto? In comparison to existing Western fashion centered in NYC and Paris, how did Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo’s fashion reshape the vocabulary of the fashion arts?
