The assignment is to create a sustainable community. You can create the name, location, etc. (this part doesn’t matter to me). For each subcategory find an environmental policy and implement it in the sustainable community design.
Instructions:
Sustainable Community Design (worth 100 points). A 7-10 page paper on how you would create a sustainable community (or city), based on policies discussed in the course, through research, and other methods (be creative!). Points breakdown:
Introduction to your community- name of community, where it’s located, governance structure (how do community members make decisions?, etc.) 10 points
Covering policies addressing (at minimum):
•Energy (10 points)
• Social Systems (10 points)
•Buildings/Infrastructure (10 points)
• Transportation (10 points)
• Water Management (10 points)
• Waste Management (10 points)
• Land Management (10 points)
Vision for the future- You can talk about how you would like your community to grow/change over the next several decades (you can choose the time frame, just some sort of plan for the future). (10 points)
Some sort of visual representation of your community- at minimum should be a rough sketch. This is where you can really get creative; especially those of you into GIS, virtual reality, etc. (10 points). If you draw a sketch, it counts as one page towards your 7 page minimum. However, if you choose to do something more elaborate to visually represent your community, I will count this as more than one page. Please contact me in advance with your idea, so I can tell you how many written pages this will count towards.
