Reflective Essay for a Reel to Real: Black Women, Feminism, Identify and Images Course
For the final paper, each student is required to write a reflective essay and explain how the readings and film changed or helped you sharpen your analytical skills to interpret the history of Black women in the 20th/21st centuries. The purpose of assigning a reflective essay is to help students realize and claim their own intellectual voice. Students will rely heavily on their analysis regarding the selected theme/s.
Students must utilize (3-5) readings and a minimum of (2) film from the course in their reflective essay. In your essay, reference the scholars who produced the work. What was their contribution and how did their interpretations shape your understanding of Black women’s history? What interpretation do you have that differs from the scholars you read? Explain each scholar’s position and then contrast them with key interpretive issues that you’ve identified.
I will also provide an example of the reflective essay
I will also provide the readings that are needed!!! As well as some analyses of the movies
The films that I chose are Boyz n the Hood and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor
